Tarab riddim

After the "Shuttle", the "Tizita" and the "Abeng", here is the swiss independent roots label's fourth riddim. The recipe is still the same : recorded in legendary jamaican studios, the gathering of legendary jamaican musicians, playing roots like way back in the days! So, in october 2014, Derrick Stewart (Alpha Boys School, Conscious Minds) on drums, Boris Gardiner (The Crystalites, The Upsetters, Boris Gardiner Happening) on bass, Dwight Pinkney (The Sharks, Zap Pow, Roots Radics)  and Robbie Lyn (Sound Dimension, Now Generation band, The Upsetters) joined forces at Harry J studio, Kingston, JA, to record this melancholic one drop riddim, the "Tarab".  A arabic word meaning the extasy one gets through music.

Three cuts of the riddim, featuring different overdubs and mixes, will be released on one 12" (45 rpm) record. As always,  Prince Alla, a real member of the Soul of Anbessa family, is singing the first one, a beautiful ballad called "In the meadow". Featuring swiss musicians Alex Schneiter on trumpet, and Matteo D'Amico on trombone. The song will be featured with its dub version, "Dubbin' the meadow".

Then, the great late Maurice Roberts (Gaylads, Conscious Minds, Psalms), who unfortunately left us in august 2015. This very moving musical testimony, called "Thank you Jah", will remain as his only ever solo song, in an over 50 years long musical career. The record is dedicated with love to the memory of this wonderful human being and artist. This version features haunting lines from french flute player Yan Saadi.

And finally, the third cut features the legendary Little Roy. A brilliantly written song called "Misleading", featuring Alex and Matteo again, but on flugelhorn and clarinet this time. A combination that's not been used a lot in reggae, to say the least...

All three cuts and the dubs were mixed in London by Darren Jamtone and Inyaki BDF, two big names in the european roots scene.

The "Tarab Showcase" will be released on vinyl in december 2015, or early 2016, and on high quality digital format via Bandcamp a little later. It is distributed by Sprint Records in London (sprintrecords@aol.com).
